His Royal Highness Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck Attends OCA Executive Board Meetings and 46th General Assembly

Tashkent, Uzbekistan: His Royal Highness Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck, President of the Bhutan Olympic Committee and the Vice President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) for South Asia, attended the 106th and 107th OCA Executive Board Meetings held on the 25th and 26th January, and the 46th OCA General Assembly on 26th January in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

The General Assembly brought together representatives from all 45 Asian National Olympic Committees, along with senior leaders of the international sporting community, reaffirming Asia’s growing influence and leadership within the global Olympic Movement.

The occasion was also graced by the presence of H.E. Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, highlighting the commitment of Uzbekistan’s leadership to the holistic role sports play in national development as well as the unifying power of sports diplomacy.

The General Assembly focused on key developments shaping Asian sport, with updates and strategic discussions across major events and governance areas. Members reviewed and approved the minutes of the previous General Assembly, received zonal reports highlighting regional progress, and heard important updates from WADA and the IOC/Olympic Solidarity on anti-doping and athlete support initiatives.

His Royal Highness also joined fellow sports leaders in warmly congratulating His Highness Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani on his historic election as the President of the Olympic Council of Asia during the General Assembly. His Highness Sheikh Joaan outlined his forward-looking vision, “Together for Asia,” focusing on unity, solidarity, athlete development, good governance, and strengthening cooperation among Asian nations through sport.

The participation of His Royal Highness highlighted Bhutan’s active engagement in continental-level decision-making and its continued commitment to contributing meaningfully to the development, governance, and future direction of sport in Asia.
