His Royal Highness Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck Chaired the South Asian Olympic Council Meeting on the Sidelines of the 46th OCA General Assembly, Tashkent, Uzbekistan
A meeting of the South Asian National Olympic Committees was convened on the sidelines of the 46th General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, to bring together key stakeholders to deliberate on regional cooperation, the future of South Asian sport, and the South Asian Games.
The meeting was chaired by HRH Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck, OCA Vice President for South Asia, and was attended by the Presidents and Secretaries General of the National Olympic Committees of Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
Following detailed deliberations, the meeting unanimously decided that the South Asian Games shall be scheduled from 23rd to 31st March, 2027, with some flexibility but within the same time window, as may be required for operational or logistical reasons.
In addition, the South Asian countries agreed to initiate further deliberations on developing a more sustainable and viable model for South Asian sports, with a focus on long-term regional cooperation and delivery of regional competitions for the benefit of all athletes and coaches, in the region.
