Bhutan Gears Up for the
3rd Asian Youth Games 2025 in Bahrain

Bhutan is proud to announce its participation in the 3rd Asian Youth Games (AYG) 2025, taking place from 22nd to 31st October in Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain. Organized under the auspices of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), the Games bring together the continent’s most promising young athletes to celebrate sportsmanship, excellence, and unity.

The 2025 edition marks a significant expansion from previous editions. The Games will feature 26 sports disciplines, up from 24 in 2013, and will host over 4,000 athletes from 45 Asian countries, competing across 259 events. The program encompasses both traditional Olympic sports and regional specialties, featuring exciting new additions such as camel racing, esports, futsal, teqball, and triathlon, which reflect the dynamic evolution of youth sports in Asia. 

Team Bhutan will compete in six disciplines: athletics, boxing, judo, taekwondo, swimming, and muay Thai, demonstrating the country’s growing dedication to youth sports development and international representation. Every athlete is supported and guided by the Bhutan Olympic Committee and the respective National Sports Federations, whose careful preparation, training programs, and strategic mentorship have readied them for this event.

The Bhutanese contingent will depart for Bahrain on 21st October 2025. Leading the delegation is Chef de Mission Mr. Sonam Namgyal, who will oversee and support the team, allowing athletes to focus fully on delivering their best performance at the Games. Months of rigorous training, strategic guidance, and mental development have prepared the athletes for this stage, an effort made possible through the unwavering collaboration and dedication of the Bhutan Olympic Committee and the National Sports Federations.

The Asian Youth Games offer a unique opportunity for athletes aged 14 to 17 to gain exposure, challenge their limits, and build resilience. Bhutan’s participation demonstrates a national commitment to developing sporting talent, creating a culture of excellence, and inspiring the next generation of athletes.
