Dasho Dr. Lotay Tshering Graces Opening of 17th National School Games 2025
Sarpang witnessed a delightful beginning to the 17th National School Games 2025 today, with the opening ceremony graced by the Honourable Dasho Dr. Lotay Tshering, Governor of Gelephu Mindfulness City. His presence added great significance to the occasion, and his words encouraged students to compete with integrity, learn from one another and uphold the true spirit of sports.
The Games, organised by the Ministry of Education and Skills Development in collaboration with the Bhutan Olympic Committee and supported by Olympic Solidarity, will run from 24 December and conclude on 28 December. The event brings together partners and communities nationwide, creating a vibrant and meaningful celebration of youth and sport. TashiCell serves as the Digital Connectivity Partner, Bhutan Ultimate Partner supports as the Snacks and Fuel Partner, Woezer Event leads as the Event Partner, while Sarpang Central School and Sarpang Middle High School host as Venue Partners.
A total of 420 students from 53 schools have gathered in Sarpang to participate across six sporting disciplines — table tennis, volleyball, basketball, aerobics, badminton and chess — competing with enthusiasm, team spirit and pride.
Adding further depth to the Games, the Bhutan Olympic Committee has set up Olympic Hub stations showcasing books, photographs, stories, achievements and Bhutan’s sporting history, along with interactive activities that promote Olympic values and inspire students.
Beyond the competitions, the event also features live performances, motivational sharing, food stalls and engaging activity areas, creating a colourful and festive atmosphere for everyone attending.
