Bhutan Hosts the ATF U14 Tennis Tournament

Thimphu, 13th October 2025 – The Bhutan/ATF U14 Tennis Tournament officially commenced today at the National Tennis Centre in Thimphu. The Hon’ble Minister of Education and Skills Development, Lyonpo Yeezang Dee Thapa, honored the opening ceremony, marking the start of a week-long event that celebrates youth talent and international sporting camaraderie.

Organized by the Bhutan Tennis Federation in collaboration with the Asian Tennis Federation and supported by the Bhutan Olympic Committee, the tournament will run until 18th October. It brings together young players from four countries — Hong Kong (China), Australia, India, and Bhutan — to compete in a spirit of friendship, learning, and excellence.

A total of 22 boys and 8 girls are participating in the event. The boys’ category features both singles and doubles matches, while the girls will compete in singles events only. Representing Bhutan are three girls and three boys hailing from Phuentsholing and Thimphu. Participants from India have joined from major cities including Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi, and Kolkata, adding a strong regional presence to the tournament.

The Bhutan/ATF U14 Tournament is classified as a Grade 3 event under the Asian Tennis Federation (ATF), offering an invaluable platform for emerging players to gain international exposure and experience. All logistics and food arrangements are self-supported by the teams, highlighting the dedication and resilience of the young athletes and their federations.

This tournament stands as a significant step in nurturing the next generation of tennis players and strengthening Bhutan’s participation in the regional tennis circuit. It also reflects the growing commitment of the Bhutan Tennis Federation to promote grassroots tennis development and provide opportunities for young athletes to compete at an international level.
