BOC Launches Swimming Sessions for School Children
Splish, Splash, and Shine!
In a refreshing move to promote active lifestyles and nurture young talent, the Bhutan Olympic Committee (BOC), in collaboration with the Department of Education Programmes (DEP) and facilitated by the Bhutan Aquatics Federation, has kicked off a special swimming programme for school children at the Thimphu Aquatic Centre.
The pilot programme, which began yesterday, welcomes students from Rinchen Kuenphen Primary School, who eagerly expressed their interest in taking part in this valuable initiative. Over the next 12 weeks, two groups of 20 students will take to the pool during their Health and Physical Education (HPE) classes, benefitting from 12 structured swimming sessions offered at a concessional fee.
Officials say the aim goes beyond just teaching swimming – it’s about instilling healthy habits from a young age, building water confidence, and potentially spotting future aquatic champions for Bhutan.
“This is not just about swimming; it’s about opening new horizons for our children. Active lifestyles lead to healthier futures, and we are committed to starting that journey early,” said a representative from the Bhutan Olympic Committee.
With the warm energy of young learners, the support of dedicated facilitators, and the vision of BOC and DEP, the Thimphu Aquatic Centre is set to become a hub where children not only splish and splash, but also shine.
