Bhutan Insurance Ltd Honors Chimi Dema for Silver Medal Win at 2025 World Para Athletics Grand Prix

A moment of pride and celebration unfolded at the Bhutan Olympic Committee Hall today as Bhutan Insurance Ltd (BIL) and the Bhutan Paralympic Committee felicitated Ms. Chimi Dema and her coach, Mr. Lhaba Tshering, for their remarkable achievement at the 2025 New Delhi World Para Athletics Grand Prix. Chimi Dema secured a silver medal in the Women’s F40 category, marking yet another milestone for Bhutan in international para sports.

The event was attended by Sonam Tobgay, Director of Operations and IT, Yeshey Lotay, General Manager, and other senior officials from Bhutan Insurance Ltd, alongside Sonam Karma Tshering, Secretary General of the Bhutan Olympic Committee, and representatives from the Bhutan Paralympic and Bhutan Olympic Committees.

In recognition of her outstanding performance, Bhutan Insurance Ltd awarded Chimi Dema a cash incentive and a complimentary sports insurance coverage worth USD 10,000. Her coach, Mr. Lhaba Tshering, was also honored for his unwavering support and dedication.

The 2025 New Delhi World Para Athletics Grand Prix, held from March 8–13 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, brought together 283 athletes from 20 countries. Competing in the Women’s F40 category, designated for athletes with short stature (≤ 125 cm for women), Chimi Dema, standing at 124 cm, delivered an impressive throw of 5.46 meters. Her effort earned her 361 points and a well-deserved silver medal, competing against strong contenders from Uzbekistan and India.

This is her second international silver medal—she previously won silver at the 5th Indian Open Para Athletics International Championship in Bengaluru, where she achieved her personal best throw of 5.71 meters.
