The Bhutan Boxing Federation is set to
Participate in the Asian Boxing U19 & U22 Championships 2025
Thimphu, July 24, 2025 — The Bhutan Boxing Federation (BBF) is all set to participate in one of Asia’s most competitive boxing tournaments, scheduled to be held from August 1 to 12, 2025, at the Indoor Stadium Huamark in Bangkok, Thailand. The event, officially organized by the Thailand Boxing Association under the aegis of the Asian Boxing Confederation and World Boxing, has drawn participation from over 25 countries with a total registration of 387 boxers — including 230 men and 160 women.
Representing Bhutan will be a contingent of eight members, including six talented young boxers who will be competing across the U19 and U22 Championship categories. Leading the team will be Head Coach Girchungla, 44, and Team Manager Sonam Penjor, 29.
The list of athletes and their respective weight categories is as follows:
U22 Championship Participants:
- Tashi Yoezer, 21, Male – 55 kg
- Kinley, 21, Male – 65 kg
- Dechen Dorji, 19, Male – 60 kg
- Kinley Phuntsho, 20, Male – 50 kg
U19 Championship Participants:
- Jampel Chedup, 18, Male – 60 kg
- Zigdal Zangmo, 18, Female – 51 kg
The BBF team’s invitation to participate in this championship came through official recognition from the Thailand Boxing Association, Asian Boxing, and World Boxing — a reflection of Bhutan’s growing presence in the international boxing scene.
The championship does promise medals for semi-finalists onwards, with gold, silver, and bronze on offer. A podium finish would not only be a personal triumph for the athletes but could also pave the way for Bhutan’s qualification in the upcoming World Boxing Cup to be held in India in November 2025.
As the team heads to Bangkok, they carry the hopes of the nation with them. This tournament is not just a chance to compete, but also an opportunity to learn, grow, and represent Bhutan on the international stage. With hard work and strong spirit, our young boxers are ready to give their best and make the country proud.
