Sports in School Program

With a spirit of gratitude and reflection, the Bhutan Olympic Committee (BOC) today held the closing and certification ceremony of the Summer Immersion Program 2025 at the BOC Headquarters in Thimphu. The program, an initiative rooted in education, engagement, and empowerment, concluded after an intensive and enriching learning experience for students from four pilot schools in the capital.

Our very own students from the Summer Immersion Media and Communication Program just pulled off something truly extraordinary — a LIVE interview with none other than Mr. Mario Jorge Leandro da Silva, UEFA A-Licensed Coach and Technical Director of Transport United FC — a seasoned football expert from Portugal with decades of international experience!

In a sunlit conference room in Thimphu, ten educators from four pilot schools gathered not just for a training—but for a transformation. What unfolded during this one-day intensive under the Sports in School (SiS) project was nothing short of a paradigm shift in how sports are viewed in the education ecosystem of Bhutan.

The Bhutan Olympic Committee (BOC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Skills Development (MoESD) and supported by Olympic Solidarity, officially launched the Summer Immersion Program 2025 — a dynamic 11-day learning experience designed to empower young minds through immersive, hands-on exposure to the world of sports media, communications, and event management.

The Bhutan Olympic Committee officially kicked off its Summer Peer and Refereeing Program today at the National Coaching Academy, Thimphu. Over the next 12 days, students from four schools will explore the fundamentals of sports science, athlete development, and peer coaching. Blending classroom theory with hands-on training, the program aims to inspire young minds and foster future talent in sports.

In what can only be described as a heartwarming development, the Sport-in-School Project—a joint initiative of the Ministry of Education and Skills Development (MoESD) and the Bhutan Olympic Committee (BOC)—is breathing life into school campuses, one game, one movement, and one joyful shout at a time.

In May 2025, Bhutan’s Olympic Committee, together with the Ministry of Education and support from Olympic Solidarity, launched a unique pilot programme: School Sports Media Training.

Every dream begins somewhere. For 15-year-old Meera Regmi, a Class X student at Khangkhu Middle Secondary School in Paro, it began in her school playground—modest, routine, and often overlooked.
