Chencho Gyeltshen Inspires Future Champions at Sarpang

17th National School Games 2025

The evening air was crisp and cold at Sarpang Central School, and the open assembly ground was alive with anticipation. The sun had long dipped below the horizon, but a quiet energy pulsed through the 420 students gathered from 53 schools, mingling with coaches, SSI instructors, and officials. Flags fluttered gently in the breeze, and the soft murmurs of excitement echoed across the space.

Then, Chencho Gyeltshen — known across Bhutan simply as CG7 — arrived. The crowd hushed. Not because he was a national icon, but because the energy he carried was different: grounded, real, and intensely human. This wasn’t a polished stadium event. This was an open-air gathering, a raw moment where dreams met reality, and CG7 was about to remind everyone that every great story starts with struggle.

He began quietly, yet every word cut through the cold evening air:
“Today, when I stand here, I recall my old times. I came to this very school, Sarpang CS, for trials when I was under 14, then 16. Just like you, I wanted to play, to dream, to achieve. And today, standing in the midst of all of you, I feel emotional remembering those days.”

He spoke of dreams, but not as distant, untouchable ideals. He spoke of dreams as living, breathing goals that demand effort, sacrifice, and persistence. “Dreams need to be there, and they need to be chased,” he told the students. “The path is never easy. It never follows a straight line. But if you give your best every single day, the result will never betray your effort.”

The struggles you face are proof that your journey is real. Keep going, stay disciplined, and let your candle burn bright every day.

When Chencho Gyeltshen — the name that has become synonymous with courage, resilience, and undying belief — stepped onto the stage during the closing ceremony of the 17th National School Games, something in the room shifted. It wasn’t just applause or admiration. It was silence filled with hope, a deep breath taken by every young heart in the hall

“Dreams are very sweet, but to achieve them, you must burn your candle every day and fuel it with effort.”

Then he shared a story that left every listener silent, hanging on each word:
“When I first went to India to play, I had just been signed by a big club. I thought my journey would change overnight. But when I arrived, no one picked up my call. The gate didn’t open. I spent the night sleeping in the storeroom. Cold, lonely, and far from home. And yet, I did not give up. I could have walked away. I could have turned back. But I didn’t.”

The students leaned forward, imagining that night: a young boy, alone in a foreign place, sleeping among crates and boxes, clutching a dream too big to fail. And yet, even then, CG7 didn’t see defeat — he saw a challenge to be met, a dream to be chased.

He went on, sharing the quieter, unseen struggles of every footballer: injuries that make the body ache and the mind doubt itself, long hours of practice, the loneliness of traveling alone, and the pressure of proving oneself every single day. “These moments test you, but they do not define you,” he said. “Your effort does. Your persistence does.”

The cold evening faded into warmth as his words filled the assembly. “Dreams are very sweet, but to achieve them, you must burn your candle every day. Fuel it with effort. Feed it with courage. And never let it go out. Even when you finally achieve it, the real challenge begins — maintaining it. That takes humility, discipline, and even greater effort. But if you keep going, everything begins to fall into place.”

CG7 paused, letting the weight of his message settle over the students and instructors alike. Then he smiled, the kind of smile that comes from knowing every struggle was worth it. “I am thankful to everyone who came into my life and reminded me not to give up. And today, I want to add one more line: Don’t give up, and don’t quit your dream. Chasing it with effort, every single day, is the new trend we must embrace.”

“Even after achieving your goal, the real challenge begins — maintaining it requires humility, discipline, and even greater effort.”

In that open-air assembly, under the cold Sarpang sky, with the wind brushing against their faces, the students didn’t just listen — they felt. They felt courage stir in their chests, dreams whisper in their minds, and the raw truth that their path, no matter how difficult, could be theirs to claim.

Chencho Gyeltshen’s story is known across Bhutan: representing the national team, scoring record goals, playing professionally abroad, breaking barriers for Bhutanese footballers. But in that moment, his fame didn’t matter. What mattered was the human truth he shared, the sweat, tears, lonely nights, and relentless effort behind every success.

The applause that followed wasn’t just polite. It was emotional. Raw. Full of understanding, of hope, of resolve. The students, the coaches, the officials — all stood taller, carrying a spark ignited by someone who had walked their path, faced the struggles, and come out stronger.

That evening, under the open sky of Sarpang, CG7 didn’t just inspire. He reminded every young Bhutanese that dreams are alive only when we chase them relentlessly. That struggles are not signs to stop but proof that your journey is real. That effort, discipline, and courage can light even the coldest, darkest nights.

Dream boldly. Chase relentlessly. Embrace your struggles. And let your candle burn bright — every single day.
